Brighter Investment Job - Summer Intern
Always wanted to make a difference in the world? Brighter Investment is hiring a Summer Intern in Accra! This is your chance to join an impact investment startup that is eliminating financial barriers to higher education. As a summer intern, you will provide creative ideas and work closely with the BI team to help achieve our ultimate goal of ensuring that every talented student has access to higher education. You will have administrative duties around BI’s core operations and help improve the overall experience for other BI Scholars.
This internship will help you acquire specialist and generalist work skills and provide you with knowledge of various marketing and operational strategies. Ultimately, you will gain broad experience and should be prepared to enter any fast-paced work environment.
The business: In developing countries, many students struggle to pay for their higher education despite the huge advantage of having a degree. Brighter Investment is changing that. We directly invest in the education of the brightest students in developing countries. In return, students repay us a fixed percentage of their income. Income dependent repayment ensures that no student ends up with insurmountable debt and allows us to repay our investors.
As a for profit company we can access international financial markets and attract much more capital for students than a charity or NGO can. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every talented student worldwide can pay for quality higher education and establish Brighter Investment as the leader in this unserved market.
Opportunity: To achieve our goal, it is important that we reach out to as many bright but needy students as possible and ensure a superb experience for current and prospective BI scholars. This is where you come in. Working in a growing start-up means that there will be new problems to solve everyday, but your main responsibilities will be two-fold: (1) Provide support with the day-to-day running of the Ghana office and (2) assist with the student engagement program.
You will assist in the effective running of the Ghana office. Among other things, this includes simply following up with high school teachers through calls, conducting phone interviews for new applicants and answering students’ questions among others.
You will support the delivery of the student mentorship program. This includes following up on potential new mentors, following up with students to see that they turn in assignments and communicating with peer mentor representatives in different universities.
In addition to the responsibilities described here, you may be asked to help with anything that comes up while growing our company. Or better yet, you may identify jobs that need doing and proactively address the need of the day!
Your Qualifications:
Strong desire to learn along with professional drive
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to use the internet and fair knowledge of Google Suite
Passion for helping make the lives of others better
Currently enrolled at the university and a BI beneficiary
Duration: Two months ( June 3, 2019 - August 2, 2019)
