Brighter Investment Job: Placement Officer

The Placement Specialist provides technical employment and job search services for students. This position requires competency in pre-employment activities such as instructing students on job search skills and resume writing, researching and locating employers with potential job offerings and matching student backgrounds with jobs. Delivering on this role will bring us a step closer to ensuring that more academically-talented but financially-disadvantaged youth have access to quality post-secondary education.

The Business

In developing countries, many students struggle to pay for their higher education despite the considerable advantage of having a degree. Brighter Investment is changing that. We directly invest in the education of the brightest students in developing countries. In return, students repay us a fixed percentage of their income. Income-dependent repayment ensures that no student ends up with insurmountable debt and allows us to provide our investors with a competitive return.

As a for-profit company, we can access international financial markets and attract much more capital for students than a charity or NGO can. Our goal is to ensure that every talented student worldwide can pay for quality higher education and establish Brighter Investment as the leader in this $600 bln market.

The Opportunity

To achieve our goal, it is important that students in the program are matched to potential employers and placed in job roles as quickly as possible. This is where you’ll come in. You will provide specialized support and service to the Brighter Investment (BI) Job Placement Program. This includes soliciting employer interest and involvement in the employment of BI graduates, orienting BI graduates to the services provided, developing skills in BI graduate job seekers and posting and tracking employment opportunities.

Your Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain temporary, full-time, part-time, and graduate job databases consisting of employer information and job specifications.

  • Maintain and continually update job orders by category. Distribute job orders to stimulate student awareness and interest.

  • Contact prospective employers by telephone and in person to set up recruitment profiles.

  • Schedule and visit various employers to identify potential positions for students and promote Brighter Investment’s job placement service.

  • Provide individual consultations by critiquing and advising students on the preparation of resumes, approaches to interviews and research of employers.

  • Participate in organising and attending job fairs; publicise, seek out and make arrangements for job fair presenters and arrange for other similar activities.
