Always wanted to make a difference in the world while boosting your resume? Brighter Investment is taking on volunteers to serve as Associates on the Mentorship Program. This is your chance to join an impact investment startup that is eliminating financial barriers to higher education. As a mentorship associate, you will provide creative ideas and work closely with the BI team to help Bright students in your university excel academically and prepare adequately for the world of work. You will have administrative duties around the core operations of the Mentorship Program and help improve the overall experience for other BI Scholars.

This volunteer position will help you acquire specialist and generalist work skills and provide you with knowledge of various people management and operational strategies. Ultimately, you will gain broad experience and should be prepared to enter any fast-paced work environment.

The Program: The Brighter Mentoring Program combines onsite peer mentoring and virtual one-on-one professional mentoring with industry learning through internships and volunteering. Junior students work hand-in-hand with senior students to master course work and understand the dynamics of university life. Senior students on the other hand work with industry professionals on monthly tasks geared at enabling their successful transition from school to the world of work.

With over 600 committed senior students and industry professionals serving as mentors on the Brighter Mentoring Program, students are more confident in their chosen career paths and attest to being more certain about landing a great job after graduation. Indeed, the future of every Brighter student is BRIGHT.

The Opportunity: To achieve our goal, it is important that we effectively manage the mentorship program and ensure that it delivers value to all stakeholders, students especially. This is where you come in. Working in a growing start-up means that there will be new problems to solve every day, but your main responsibilities will be two-fold: (1) Provide support with the day-to-day running of the mentorship program in your university, and (2) assist with identifying and providing opportunities for students’ professional and academic growth.

  • You will assist in the effective running of the mentorship program at your university. Among other things, this includes simply following up with students who are late on assignments and tasks through calls/chats, providing support with mentorship assignments, and serving as a liaison between Bright students at your university and Brighter Investment.

  • You will identify and provide opportunities for students’ academic and professional growth. This includes reaching out to and following up on potential employers, organizing workshops, seminars, and other engagement programs that will be helpful to students at your university, and communicating with organizations, associations, and groups in and around your university that will play a key role in the development of students.

In addition to the responsibilities described here, you may be asked to help with anything that comes up while growing the program. Or better yet, you may identify jobs that need doing and proactively address the need of the day!

Your Qualification: To qualify as a volunteer mentorship associate, you will possess the following characteristics;

  • A strong desire to learn.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to use the internet and fair knowledge of Google Suite.

  • Passion for helping make the lives of others better.

  • A beneficiary of Brighter Investment

  • Currently enrolled in the university.

The Perks: Beyond gaining vital work skills and experience that will in no doubt boost your resume when you are ready for a full-time job, being a mentorship associate will see you having Brighter Investment branded souvenirs, having a pass to the Brighter Investment annual hang-out, and getting a customized recommendation letter at the end of your work.

Duration: This position is expected to span a period of ten (10) months from December 2020 to August 2021.

Location: Remote and on-site at your university.
